eNews and eNotes-Rotary Club of Greater Salem NH July 10, 2009-Inaugural Meeting of President Rick Meeting was called to order at 7:30AM followed by a Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest and Visitors: Today we were joined by fellow Rotarians: Assistant Governor Dennis Sweeney, and Lee Fastnach visiting the Lawrence Club, and our Scholarship Recipients and there Parents. Raffleman Matt B. retrieved the “Pink” ticket bucket and asked one of our quests to pick the winning ticket. It took two attempts to determine our winner-Arthur B. but Arthur was unable to find the 4 of Clubs in our deck of “Famous Gangster”. Our search for Prohibition continues. This morning thanks to our fellow Rotarians from the Rotary Club Gyor Rábá in Hungary, we were able offer another raffle item. Nick C and Laura A had the opportunity to meet with one of the Rotarians from Rotary Club Gyor Rábá who was visiting his family in Vermont. The trio met in Salem, NH and exchanged gifts. A bottle of white wine from Pannonhalmi Apatsagi (The Abbey of Pannonhalmi) with a special label was presented to our club. Rather than each of taking a sip at 7:30AM, Nick C decided to raffle the wine. John M. was the lucky winner, elvez, John! Not only is this the Inaugural Meeting of our new President but today we hand over our dollars to our new Fine Master “Giv’em Dolars” Barnes. Arthur’s theme for the year is “You got a buck and I want it.” With eight whistle totting volunteers at his side and a birthday in the crowd to celebrate, “Giv’em Dolars” Barnes led his orchestra in a heat stopping rendition of Happy Birthday. Members attending the concert were required to pay a dollar…I have to say…I didn’t see this one coming! Arthur then proceeded to collect Happy, Sad and Announcement Dollars. Announcement Dollars ran five to one and during the fining we learned a few things: We are in need of two host families for our Exchange Student; Ms. Santiago from Chili. If you know of a family interested in participating, please contact Hank L. or Laura A. We also learned we have received the documents necessary to participate in the Texas Hold’em Fund Raising Project. If you haven’t gotten your passport pictures and want to participate, get them to John M. We also found out from Marie B that Thorstienn provided us with a new deck of cards for our raffle-type to be determined. We were also reminded that Ed D is hosting a get together at his house on Saturday 7/11 from 2-8PM. President Rick ended the Announcement Dollars and informed us that the 17 piece band he is part of will be in concert at the Field Of Dreams on July 16 form 7-9PM Jim T welcome back from Switzerland During our meeting Dennis Sweeney our Assistant Governor took the opportunity to congratulate our New Club President, President Rick and wish him well. Speaking for only a few minutes he told us the new theme for Rotary in 2010 is the “Future of Rotary is in Your Hands” Scholarship Presentations It was at this point in our meeting that President Rick asked Nick C, Chair of our Scholarship Committee to introduce our recipients. This year the club has awarded two $1,000 scholarships, which the recipients will receive once they have completed their Freshman Year. Present to receive their scholarships were Robert Blakslee and his parents Maria and Dana Blakslee and Brian Peltz and his parents Claude and Louise Peltz Congratulations Gentlemen! Final Comments and Reminders: Our Next Meeting will be July 17th Installation of Officers On July 17th we will have a Guest Performer-A Classic Guitarist from Hungary With no other business to discuss the Inaugural Meeting of President Rick was adjourned Respectfully e-mailed Frank C.
